Community College Troubles Eased by Stimulus

States around the United States are dipping into their federal stimulus money to assist community colleges where higher tuition costs, soaring enrollment and severe cuts to budgets have students being not able to attend these schools.

Budget cuts in some states make the stimulus relief not so beneficial. The country’s largest community college, Miami Dade College, is being forced to limit its enrollment this coming school year because of cuts to that state’s budget.

California says that they may have to say no to a quarter of a million community college students this fall because they simply cannot afford to accept them.

East Los Angeles College canceled half of its classes they were going to offer for the summer session because of budget cuts. There are more and more students who wish to earn college degrees choosing to attend community colleges and this is very evident in Hawaii wherein that state’s seven community colleges have 28 percent more students registered this year than what they had last year.

It is much cheaper to attend community college compared to four year schools-three times less in most cases.  Students should also consider online college programs too, these can also help you save money over a traditional four year college.
