The Need for Even More Online Degree Programs
While the number online college degree programs and courses are rising, many institutions still do not provide enough degree programs for students. In one recent study, it has been found that among two-year public colleges, 90% offer online classes. Unfortunately for students however, only 20% of these institutions actually have college degree programs that can be finished online. This trend will surely change as demand for online college degree programs increases.
Not surprisingly, the same study found that among four-year private institutions that have online classes, about 33% have college degree programs that can be finished online. More information for several of these institutions can be found on the CDP website.

In an exhaustive study done by the National Center for Education Statistics, it has been shown that public institutions have led the nation in online education. In early 2001, as many as 89-90% of public 2 and 4 year colleges offered alternatives to classroom college degree programs compared to less than 20% of private institutions.
This trend has been a large contributor to the fact that more and more students and professionals have turned to online college degree programs to work toward or finish their degrees. It is no surprise that with the added flexibility of online classes, motivated individuals can more easily deal with obstacles that may have otherwise delayed them from completing their degrees. Students of all ages benefit from online college degree programs and are able to get their degrees a lot sooner in some cases. Private institutions will follow this trend to stay competitive and keep their enrollment, both virtual and physical, as high as possible.
