Many college students face challenges that are unique to the college experience. This is especially true for students attending traditional campuses. Services for all Individuals who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing should be readily available at most colleges and universities. Some useful services for the deaf and Hard of Hearing in use at BU include the following:

- Full-time Staff Interpreter
- ASL Interpreting (American Sign Language)
- C.A.R.T. Services (Computer Aided Real Time Captioning)

- Telephones which have receivers with volume controls at several sites on campus
- Housing modifications available upon request, such as the provision of visual fire alarms, visual door buzzers, and amplified phones
- TTYs are located at Disability Services and in various Schools and Colleges, Departments throughout the University

All traditional and online colleges and universities should already have services and facilities in place to help accommodate individuals with disabilities. Some schools, like Connecticut’s Boston University provides certain services for all individuals with disabilities. Some of these services include:
- Equality of access to University programs and services
- Provision of reasonable accommodations
- Provision of auxiliary aids and services
- Access to accessible and fully integrated University Housing
- Special dietary accommodations through Dining Services
- Career development, personal counseling, study skills and tutoring information, and academic support available through other campus resources.

Senior citizens and retirees can also benefit from the availability and variety of college degree programs being offered at colleges and universities around the country.
