The United State’s federal agencies are severely short of computer specialists as a growing number of well-coordinated cyber attacks against the U.S. government greatly risks the country’s security.
A series of cyber attacks this month shout down some U.S. government web sites.
Cyber workers are needed but the recruiting of these workers is hindered by a burdensome hiring process and by the lack of certification standards as well as by a lack of training.
It is actually unknown how many cyber workers there are in the United States because employees are classified so differently by agencies. The Pentagon says that it has over 90,000 workers working in cyber security. The civilian cyber security work force is estimated to be between 35,000 to 45,000. Most of these workers will most definitely have obtained a Bachelor’s Degree at minimum.
Obama recently said that cyber security is a top priority but so far the White House has been unable to fill its new cyber coordinator position and this job is regarded as critical.
For students getting ready to graduate college with a degree in Computer Science or similar may want to consider applying with the Gov’t. for a job.

Social and technological changes have resulted in us looking at education differently today. When asked what an higher education is, different people will give you different answers.
With the emerging popularity of online learning, many people do not automatically think of a college campus with its library, classrooms and student activity center when they are asked to describe higher education.
During the past fifty years, enrollment in the nation’s colleges and universities has swelled to an impressive 17 million students. More and more people are aware of the many benefits that are associated with earning a college degree.
The best undergraduate education requires more than interaction in the classroom. It involves the community, social clubs, faculty and student events and athletic events that brings a whole community together.
Earning a college degree online without receiving the full experience takes the rich spirit out of a college education. A lifelong fire of learning should be sparked and kept aflame on an actual physical campus, but with the changing times, maintaining this fire is being done from a distance.

States around the United States are dipping into their federal stimulus money to assist community colleges where higher tuition costs, soaring enrollment and severe cuts to budgets have students being not able to attend these schools.
Budget cuts in some states make the stimulus relief not so beneficial. The country’s largest community college, Miami Dade College, is being forced to limit its enrollment this coming school year because of cuts to that state’s budget.
California says that they may have to say no to a quarter of a million community college students this fall because they simply cannot afford to accept them.
East Los Angeles College canceled half of its classes they were going to offer for the summer session because of budget cuts. There are more and more students who wish to earn college degrees choosing to attend community colleges and this is very evident in Hawaii wherein that state’s seven community colleges have 28 percent more students registered this year than what they had last year.
It is much cheaper to attend community college compared to four year schools-three times less in most cases. Students should also consider online college programs too, these can also help you save money over a traditional four year college.

Have you ever wondered how much a college education is worth in hard cold cash? If you have a master’s degree, it is worth a whopping $1.3 million more over your lifetime than having only a high school diploma, according the the Census Bureau.
The report that is called ‘The Big Payoff: Educational Attainment and Synthetic Estimates of Work-Life Earnings” says that over a lifetime, high school grads can expect to earn about $1.2 million. Those with a bachelor’s degree can expect to earn $2.1 million and people who hold master’s degrees can expect to earn $2.5 million. Those numbers are quite striking when you see the vast differences earned.
As you can see, if you have a college degree, you can expect to make significantly more money than if you only have earned a high school diploma and if you earn a masters or a doctorate degree, your earnings are considerably higher.
More education means more money and this payoff is most impressive at the highest educational levels. These figures were based on earnings in 1999 that were earned over a typical work life which is considered to be between the ages of 25 through 64.

Today it is more and more popular to earn a college degree online. It was not long ago that people had no choice but to attend college in person, but now there are online college degree programs sprouting up all across the United States and enrollment is brisk.
When you are enrolled in an online degree program you are given a good deal of flexibility. You can still work full time for instance and do your studying in the evenings or on weekends.
Another advantage to earning your degree online is the cost savings. Since you are working at home, you do not need to pay for gas to get you to and from a college or university nor do you have to pay room and board in a student dormitory. In these tight economic times, people are flocking to online college degree programs for this very reason. Many people simply cannot afford to go away to college and they are finding that the online degree programs are indeed very affordable.
Mothers with small children still living at home are some of the types of people who are enrolling in online courses. These women can still maintain the home and tend to children at the same time that they are furthering their educations.

The Vermont-based Green Mountain College celebrated its first class of graduates in the online master’s degree program in sustainable business.
Green Mountain College’s MBA was the first accredited online degree program in the United States to have the concept of sustainable business at its core. The program puts an emphasis on its ‘triple bottom line’ approach to business which is people, planet and profit.
This type of ‘green’ initiative is becoming more popular in education and business. Being green and being seen as being green is very important to big corporations as well as small-scale operations.
There are very few schools that offer complete management programs that are ‘green’ to the core. Bainbridge Graduate Institute in Washington State in the U.S. is one trailblazer as they have an MBA in Sustainable Business program.
BGI’s program is different from others in that it contains pulls environmental and social sustainability issues into every element of the MBA program and the school also offers a four course follow-up that puts the focus on issues that relate to sustainability.

Clinical assistant professor, Shawna Strickland, from the University of Missouri Columbia School of Health Professions, studied the demographics and personalities of distance learners and has provided valuable insight into what traits make for success when working on an online degree.
Educators need to learn more about the characteristics of online learner so that they can structure their online courses to be as beneficial as possible. A person who works from a distance must be determined and responsible.
The study found that quiet and introverted people were more likely to feel comfortable working online as this type of person is less inclined to partake in classroom discussions.
Distance learning was also found to be of use where cultural differences can make students less likely to engage in classroom debates. Business schools in both the U.S. and the UK report that students of Asian descent are less willing to speak compared to the Western students.
Strickland reported that there is one common theme that reappears between the correlation between learning styles and success in distance education: The successful traits of the distance learner are very much the same as the successful traits of an adult learner in a classroom setting.

Many full time workers and mothers who want to return to work are attracted to online education because it is less expensive than partaking in a full-time program.
Capella University conducted a study that found that half of U.S. adults wished to further their educations but were discouraged by the costs. The cost of returning to school is even more of an issue in these uncertain economic times. There are a few ways you can keep your costs lowered if you are in pursuit of an college degree.
The best way is to get your employer to pay your fees for you. If your employee refuses, inquire about education grants that may be available to you.
When studying from a distance (online degree programs) you can save money by choosing the right computer and you can also save by having a mobile broadband connection. The software you choose can save you money as well. It makes more sense to use a laptop because of the portability and the availability of mobile broadband. You can purchase a great laptop for a few hundred dollars and even can choose a mini laptop for saving even more.
Regarding software, Open Office is a free rival to Microsoft Office and is ideal for creating documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Open Office is compatible with MS Office and it works on PCs and Apple computers.

If you want to pursue a college degree but do not know how you will be able to afford it, then this article is for you. Financial aid is money that assists you in paying for your college degree programs.
There are three types of financial aid: grants, loans and work study. A grant is also called a scholarship and is the ultimate financial aid because you are not required to re-pay the money give to you. Grants are awarded according to need, merit and as a benefit of employment.
A student loan is a debt that you will have to pay back once you either drop out of college or when you have earned your degree. The federal government offers student loans and the interest rate is low so that students can afford to re-pay the loan.
Work study is awarded to students who are financially strapped. The jobs do not pay so well but the earnings do not reduce the student’s future financial aid awards. These jobs are typically on-campus and are typically limited to under fifteen hours and week so that the student can still find time to attend college classes and to study.

Over the past ten years the internet has been taken by storm as more and more people are signing up for college degree programs online. It is a whole new way to look at higher education.
Some of the advantages to taking online college classes is the great flexibility it offers. If you hold a full time job, you can still study online in your free time. This is an outstanding opportunity for literally thousands of people who have always wanted to attend college but simply did not have the time. Another advantage is that no matter where you live, you can attend online classes. There is no commute to be made so if you live out in the country, it doesn’t matter one bit.
The disadvantages of taking online courses is that you do not get any direct interaction with your instructors. Most of your assignments will be sent via email, so if you feel you need face-to-face interaction, then maybe studying online is not for you.
Learning online can be great for some students and not so great for others. You should carefully consider the pros and cons of distance learning before committing to an online program.
