Finding Scholarships for College

It is a cold hard fact that college gets more and more expensive every single year. Scholarships are a terrific way to help reduce the costs of attending a college or university.

Scholarships are awarded based on some type of achievement or success and may contain clauses that require you to maintain a certain grade point average.

In order to find scholarships you need to reach out to everyone you know to ask if they know of a good scholarship opportunity for you. Keep a list of the scholarship information you are given and then go online to check out the details. When applying, try to set yourself apart from the other applicants by being honest, candid and highlighting your accomplishments and goals.

Once you are awarded a scholarship, be sure to write a thank you note to the people who selected you. This will greatly assist you in winning the same scholarship next year if you are still eligible.

You can also use the internet to locate scholarships. There are now several government sponsored websites with lists of current scholarships available.

How to Survive and Thrive Your Freshman Year and Beyond

High school and college differ greatly. It does not matter too much what you did in high school because once you get into college you are starting with a clean slate.

You will find yourself with a lot of freedom and cultural differences once you set foot on the college campus for the first time.
It is a fact that one in every four college students drops out before finishing their sophomore year and nearly half of all freshmen either drop out or obtain their education somewhere else.

If you wish to succeed in college you should be sure to attend all orientations so that you get a feel for college life. Be sure to get to know your roommates as well as others in your dorm. These people are going through exactly what you are going through so if you become friends and bond with them you will have each other to lean on in tough times.

Find the perfect place to study. Forget about studying in your dorm room. There will be far too many distractions. Consider checking out the campus library and find a quiet corner table that you can use to do your school work.

Although it may sound obvious, you should go to class. It will be tempting for you to sleep in and skip class on rough days but you will only be hurting yourself if you fall into this type of pattern. Stay focused on the reason you are attending college - your future.
