The United States faces another troubling trend that, if it continues unabated, may result in a weakened economy dependent upon skilled workers from other countries. According to 2004 Census Bureau data, roughly one in five of adults age 25-34 could be categorized as having “some college, no degree.†The need for educated, qualified workers is at a constant rise around the globe and, unlike past decades, the demand is not just for unskilled labor industries but has evolved to include the need for workers to handle so-called “white collar†jobs. Dwindling pools of American college graduates are also causing businesses to seek employees from beyond the borders.
