Network + Certification

Individuals interested in obtaining a career in the IT industry should consider getting a Network+ certification. Training and education for this certification enable individuals have the necessary skills to install, administer and troubleshoot computer networks and their components in a variety of computing environments. Some of the main areas of study for this highly desirable certification include:

  • Logical and physical topologies such as Star, bus, mesh, and ring.
  • Characteristics of each of the Ethernet (802.3) standards including speed, length, topology, cabling and connectors.
  • Use of various hardware components such as hubs, switches, routers, gateways, Network cards and modems.
  • Network standards: including OSI model, addressing, protocols, interoperability and naming conventions.
  • TCP/IP suite: including IP addressing, subnetting and default subnet masks.
  • WAN Technologies: including Frame-Relay, ISDN, FDDI, T1/E1, T3/E3 and ATM.
  • Remote Access: including protocols, services and the latest security protocols.
  • Network Implementation: including shared services under Unix, Netware and Windows operating systems.
  • Authentication methods, firewalls and proxies.
  • Fault tolerance and disaster recovery.
  • Troubleshooting scenarios, identification of causes and corrective action in solving network problems.
