The Issue on Laptops in the Classroom

There has been much debate going around concerning the practice of allowing laptops in the classroom. Although mobile technology and wireless connectivity has made it possible for schools to accommodate the use of laptops for students while in class, not everyone is convinced of the effectiveness of learning through a computer device.

With a wealth of resources waiting at the tip of their fingertips, it may not always be easy for students to concentrate on the teacher’s lectures or to take down notes while doing so.

However, the benefits to be derived from laptop-fueled classroom participation are immense. Instructors are better able to illustrate their discussions through online sources, and students can complete researches in a matter of minutes. With the lightweight models of laptops, the need for bulky paperwork can be slowly eliminated.

Although laptops in the classroom are the norm these days, it is still necessary to strike a balance between authentic learning and technological convenience.
