What You Will Learn in a Veterinary School
A good veterinary school provides their students with different study programs to earn different kinds of certifications for a variety of specializations. These schools also usually offer associate, bachelor, master and doctorate degrees.
The associate degree for veterinary technicians can be earned in two years at a good school. Students have the option to learn avian and small animal medicine that includes small exotic, wildlife, and zoo animals; or equine and large animal medicine.
They will typically also study veterinary surgery, physiology, anatomy, radiology, infectious diseases, pathology, pharmacology, mycology, population health and wildlife diseases.
The undergraduate degree programs start with animal anatomy and physiology; animal nutrition and diseases; reproduction and genetics; medical mathematics; and office management.
Then it progresses into animal nursing, surgery techniques, and breeding. Through these studies, students become prepared for careers in animal hospitals, private veterinary practices, diagnostic laboratories or animal clinics. Continuing education courses are also available for veterinarians, technicians and assistants.
